International Music
So I was curious, what sort of music is popular where you live? What are some of your favorite artists/bands from your country?
I don't know much about some of the more mainstream rock/pop/rap/what have you in America, as I don't really listen to those genres, but I do know country music. Currently popular are all sorts of artists, one that comes to mind readily is Taylor Swift. Some of her songs:
Love Story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDJbq360CSU
Picture to Burn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR29Sj5Zgng&feature=related
Mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNj41_8MgTM
You Belong With Me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vYfLHXAPPs&feature=fvw
Other good newer artists are Love and Theft (Runaway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsfKnHDzRzk, Dancing in Circles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxGx_oqU4WM&feature=related) and Zac Brown Band (Chicken Fried https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVA9eEPkhvM, (Falling in Love) As She's Walking Awayhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW-LUbRECHU)
Some other artists I particulary enjoy in country are Toby Keith (Courtesy of the Red White and Blue* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7P9TAnmGRFQ, Beer For My Horses https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drEGR-H92EU) , Brad Paisly (Waiting on a Womanhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCCrzUyb9II ), Rascal Flats (Life is a Highwayhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5TIulzXoXo) and a whole slew of others (Reba, Garth Brooks, George Strait... There are so many to choose from!).
*Cotains swearing and ALOT of American patriotism...

Re: International Music
I love, love, love you for this thread! I'm a music freak. XD
in germany we hear a lot of american and english music, and of course I can't speak for 'all' germans because everyone has their own preferences, but that's what I like to listen.
Warning, may contain noise, odd humour and irony!
Die Streuner
10 Orks (this is actually a cover from "tsen brider", which is a jiddich song )
Männer mit Bärten (the dutch also have this song...just in dutch XD)
Piet am Galgen (Piet goes to the gabbet)
die Toten Hosen:
pushed again
Paradies
still still still (traditional christmas song, the english version would be "sleep, my precious baby, sleep')
The Beatsteaks
Hello Joe
hand in hand
hey du! (btw. this is how a prussian/berlin accent sounds like)
die Ärzte:
Schrei nach Liebe
Deine Schuld
Schundersong
Wiseguys:
Stolz (about national pride...or more having none)
Es tut so weh (It hurts so much...the football club colonge lost)
chocolate chip cookies
Die Schröders:
Bayern hat verloren (FC Bayern München lost )
Saufen,saufen,saufen [booze,booze,booze]
Otto Waalkes:
Wir haben Grund zum feiern (cover from 'we didn't start the fight')
Abstürzende Brieftauben:
Spiel nicht mit den Schmuddelkindern (cover, orginal Franz-Josef Degenhard)
Heiter bis Wolkig:
Moskau
Das Lied der Pünke
JBO:
Wir sind die Champignons
Bolle
Verteidiger des wahren Blödsinns, kreiger in schwaz, rosa, gold (defenders of the true nonsense, warriors in black, pink, gold)
Knorkator:
Wir werden alle sterben (We all will die)
Kinderlied (children song)
Schandmaul
Sonnenstrahl (sunray)
Waldmär (forest tale)
Time for some local pride 8D
It's funny how different the anthem are.
Saarland is like: joy, peace, friendship, work and part
Lower saxony is is more like: we are like totally older than f***ing germany, we are saxons we won against the romans. XDD
Niedersachsenlied (anthem of lower saxony)
Saarland anthem
UND
UNSER SANDMÄNNCHEN

ade a new post 'cause my other post was so long already...
"Courtesy of Red White and BLue" was kind of vicarious embarrassing for me... I know they're american, I accept the way they are and I won't mention the bad N-word, but this is how it makes me feel.
I can't watch "beer or my Horses", because Youtube hates me...but I like the title. XD
"Waiting for a woman"->Youtube still hates me. ):
"Life is a Highway"->cool song
"As she's walking away'-> nice
"Chicken fried" cute and beautiful song...you suddenly feel like wanting to travel to georgia (the state not the country).
"Dancing in circles" =
"Runaway"->I know that feeling.
First 4 songs: Youtube REALLY hates me. ;o;

Courtesy of the Red White and Blue was written right after 9/11... we were angry, and well, a guy wrote about it... May I ask why you're so embarresed by it? I can see how it's offensive but I'm curious...
Grr... stupid youtube! I'll see if I can find the missing songs on another website and put them up asap.
On your music:
10 Orcs: That was funny!
Männer mit Bärten: I like that, it's like a folk song!
Pushed Again: It has an interesting sound. I like the lyrics.
Paradies: I like the way this one sounds!
Still Still Still: I lol'd
Hello Joe and Hand in Hand: Hmm, interesting...
Hey du!: Cute!
Schrei nach Leibe: Kind of intense, but I like it.
Deine Schuld: Holy muffins, I love this song! <3
Schundesong: I like this onetoo! I think I'm going to have to look up some more of this bands stuff.
Stolz: Hm, very interesting. Personally I find it interesting the difference in national pride around the world, how it's strong some places but weak in others.
Es tut so weh (It hurts so much...the football club colonge lost): That was hilarious! xD Football is serious business...
Chocolate Chip Cookies: Jazz+Chocolate chip cookies= win
Bayern hat verloren: Another funny song!
Saufen Saufen Saufen: That's hilarious....
Wir haben Grund zum feiern: Wow, so much liquour...
Spiel nicht mit den Schmuddelkindern: That was surprisingly catchy! It reminded me of American country ballads.
Moskau: That was epic.
Das Lied der Pünke: This one sounds really cool.
Wir sind die Champignons: We are the Champions... this song never gets old.
Bolle: Funny and catchy, I like it.
Verteidiger des wahren Blödsinns, kreiger in schwaz, rosa, gold: Very cool.
Wir werden alle sterben: Kind of depressing...
Kinderlied: That made me kind of sad.
Sonnenstrahl and Waldmar: I don't know how to describe these, but I really like them...
Hahaha, the anthems are cool! I don't think wehavestate anthems in America... and everyone knows the national anthem lol. There is a (in)famous song about California (my home state) though! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRF__3FWIp4
The Sandmann song was ridiculously cute sounding!

Well, imagine you're in a shopping centre, there are a lot of men and women around, suddenly a man standing in a cluster of people shouts with ardour "I LOVE MY PENIS! MY PENIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PENIS IN THE WORLD!!!"
I mean, of course it's well known, that nearly every male human being has a Dingdong, as well as nearly everyone has a nationality...still it's kind of embarrassing hearing someone showing so much affection to it.
In German we call that 'Fremdschämen', that means you're feeling embarrassed of someone else's actions eventhough it has not really something to do with you.

Hmm, I think I see what you mean... Incredibly awkward situation... I am sorry for making you feel that way. It never occured to me that thatmight be strange. As an American I'm used to the huge pride we have in our country and don't see it as potentially embarassing, unless it involves being stereotyped negativly.
I really like that word! It seems like it's very useful. I wish we had an English counter-part...
I must admit, that is not the nicest song written after 9/11. It is very out there in terms of blatant nationalism.
Nicer songs:
Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning? : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyPtqvaKAfU
God Bless the USA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RINqibpWOzQ (It still has the affection, but it isn't as extreme...)
American Saturday Night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvdoKvHYxcA (I really like this song because it's showing alot of pride in how America is a nation of immigrants)
Where the Stars and Stirpes and Eagles Fly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzV32-KBxyU
It's America: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f33KzjrjTg0
In support of our soliders (not necassarily the war, though it can be read that way I guess)

No Problem, I actually think it's pretty interesting.
It needs a lot of time to make me feel awkward...as long as you are american and not german I can deal with your national pride.
I'll listen to you songs tomorrow, I'm too tired and it's too late at the moment.

Well, as long as we've come to an understanding. It is really interesting how dofferet people view national pride and the like! Looking at these different views makes me want to look at history to see why we may have certain viewpoints ^^

Re: International Music
I recently came across this song, and was wondering if anyone here has ever heard it or knows more about it than I've been able to find https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pXlNIJOEew
I know it's in German, but can't find an artist or official title... I've had no luck with finding lyrics either. I think it's about rollerblading though... I can only pick out a few words and phrases though, so I'm a bit lost...
Anyone able to help?

I couldn't find an english translation, but I could find a german one...And since it is Saturday morning and i have coffee and breakfast, I'll translate it for you. ^^
this is soo 90ies. /D
generally this songs main characteristic is the use of pseudo-cool wanna-be teenage slang. *lol*
- Spoiler:
- We dash around the city
we drift around the corners for the whole day
the cappy (peaked cap) extremely to the left side and always with full throttle
that's what's going in here*! We dont fear any road!
Alexandra likes the most to bomb down though the puddles
it's the greatest fun for her to splatter the other with water
Kamikaze Markus, hey guys that's hot,
he'll even go with his Inline skates on the ice during winter!
In-line skates, In-line skates, come on let's in-line skate!
In-line skates, In-line skates, we are in-line skating!
lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala
We don't know any mercy, we don't know any clock
the school didn't end yet, but we're already on tour
use your eyes, or you'll see stars!
you know what happens next, it goes "bang" and you crash into a street lamp
we're rustling through the streets, we speed through the parks
until all socks are smoking, they only cost a few Marks**.
i love this tempo (speed), I never have enough
and without wheels below my feets, I'm on cold-turkey.
In-line skates, In-line skates, come on let's in-line skate!

lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala
*'"Das geht ab!" is the answer on "was geht ab", which would mean "What's up"

I can understand that, I like trash too, from time to time. /D
here are some "weird song" I like...even though i don't know why. XD
"Discopogo!!!"
"beide hände nach oben" (she's telling you to put both arms in upwards...very far upwards...it a gymnastic song)
http://www.myvideo.de/watch/982992/Gym_Nastix_Beide_Arme_nach_oben
ich zeige ihnen blumen ("I'm showing you flowers", it made from an interview about politics, economics and random flowers and cats XD)
"Körperzellenrock"
("somatic cells rock", you can't stay sad, if you do this dance. XD
text:every somatic cell is happy, every somatic cell is feeling well! x2
every cell at any place x2
